Background:

Formby High School is a mixed comprehensive since 1968, the school is housed in a building, which dates from 1938, set in spacious grounds in the middle of a dormitory town on the coast midway between Liverpool and Southport. In September 2003 a new purpose-built sixth form centre was opened which contains a large common room, library and ICT suite together with modern classrooms. The buildings also include a number of further specialist areas; seven fully equipped science laboratories, two large business standard ICT suites and art and technology departments. In addition, the subject departments have well-maintained classrooms with, modern furniture and classrooms. Outside there are excellent facilities for football, hockey, athletics and it also has six superb tennis and netball courts. The school has an outstanding and thoroughly deserved reputation for the range and quality of its extra-curricular programme. In sport and outdoor pursuits the school has an excellent record of success and it competes at the highest level in all major activities, often against much larger schools. Hockey, tennis, netball, basketball, football, badminton, cricket, rounders and athletics are particularly strong. The school aims to provide a safe and pleasant environment for effective learning.
