Background:

Liscard Primary is a large school situated in Liscard, a suburb of Wallasey where the surrounding area has seen a rise in unemployment in recent years. Opened in 1911 as grammar school, the school occupies the same building today, a large building on two floors to which additional classrooms and mobile accommodation have been added. Physical education facilities include a gymnasium, hall and 'large' playing fields. The school has a reputation for 'high academic standards' and of providing a 'well balanced, all-round curriculum of high quality for pupils of all abilities'. Information technology is used as a learning resource in most areas of the curriculum and the school has a stock of multimedia-based computers. A number of extra-curricular clubs are offered including football, unihock, netball, ten step, cricket, rounders, gym club, orchestra group, choir, guitar group, recorder clubs, book club, drama group and information technology club. Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to spend a week at an outdoor pursuit area. The Liscard Primary School Association raises funds for school projects and charities and many local organisations now support the school. School life is 'busy, varied and stimulating' and Liscard strives to ensure friendliness and order. It is a 'popular school that encourages respect for the individual' and is currently over-subscribed.
