The school was founded in 1935 and is situated in an area of heavy industry in the docklands area of Bootle. The buildings are in 'excellent condition' and offers a parents room and computer suite. The full range of extra-curricular activities has won the school an Education Extra Distcinction Award. A special needs co-ordinator and nursery nurses provide for children with special needs. It is a Beacon school and has received the Investors in People Award and the Basic Skills Agency Quality Mark. The school has partner schools in Belgium and Hungay with which it takes part in joint curricular projects.
