Background:
The school opened in January 1967. It is accommodated in a single storey 'schola' designed building with nine large classrooms, including a moderate learning difficulties (MLD) unit, arranged in a herring bone pattern off the central corridor. Facilities include a 'spacious' hall which is used for assembly, dining, PE, clubs activities and concerts, two 'spacious' library areas and a children's kitchen. The exterior of the school was been 'remodelled' in 2000 and its 'extensive' grounds are shared with the adjoining infant school. Facilities include a 'large' hard play surface and playing fields, and a voluntary grounds development organisation helps to tend the grounds. The school is located in the village of Little Neston, between the town of Neston and open countryside. It is fronted by modern housing and backs onto open fields, and the Wirral Way. The catchment is mixed, with the school drawing from a wide geographical area. Curricular achievements include selection by Cheshire LEA for an advance group of schools for NGFL funding, and successful integration of SEN pupils. All the staff and the vast majority of pupils are involved in the extra curricular activities, where achievements include appearances by the school orchestra at the the National Festival of Music for Youth at the Royal Festival Hall via, as well as regular concerts by the choir, orchestra and other groups. Other activities include sport, and the school takes part in football, netball, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, athletics, rounders, and cricket matches and tournaments. Community links include 'regular' contact with local churches, charities, pensioners and other groups. There are also 'good links' with local industry, 'especially Powergen'. The school has a 'successful and well-established' parent-teachers association (PTA) and the school supports several local and national charities throughout the year.
