Background:

St Anselm's College founded in 1933 by the congregation of the Christian Brothers. The college became independent during the 1970s when direct grant funding was ended and became the first independent school to opt into the G-M sector in 1995. It is now voluntary aided, with Christian Brothers as trustees. It occupies a site close to Birkenhead Park and has attractive sports facilities two miles away in Noctorum. The school became a Joint Technology College in September 2002 in keeping with the determination to provide outstanding Catholic education to prepare boys for life in the 21st and to train the generation of Catholic Christmas leaders. The college has enjoyed long enviable sports reputation. Record GCSE and A level results achieved in 2003 and 2004. The school enjoys close community links and raise substantial funds for local and international charities each year. A wide range of extra-curricular activities offered at the school include rugby, cross-country, music, hockey, athletics, cricket and apostolic activities. The school provides various opportunities to enhance the learning of pupils. The school aims to provide outstanding academic secondary education for the Catholic Christian community in Wirral, to develop the god-given talents of all pupils, to prepare them for life and to give them immersion in the ethos of Blessed Edmund Rice.
