A single-form entry school in Lower Heswall, in an affluent area, half a mile from the River Dee; built in 1968 in a typical Cheshire design; extensive grounds. There is a preparatory school unit on site for children to attend before starting school. Major project to develop extensive playground area. Before-school and after-school care. Sports include football, netball, cross-country; musical opportunities include individual instrumental tuition and an orchestra; French and Spanish language clubs. 'The purpose of Gayton Primary School is to provide an education, which will develop and extend the whole child, ensuring the highest standards of attainment and personal growth.' DfES achievement award (2002).
