Background:

Poulton Lancelyn Primary was established in 1970 and was officially opened in 1982 by the Rt Hon Sir Keith Joseph BT MP, the Secretary of State for Education. The 'very pleasant and spacious' site has four hard surfaced playing areas, two playing fields, smaller grassed playing areas, two natural gardens and a range of mature trees and hedges. To accommodate growing numbers of pupils extra classrooms have since been added, notably including a low energy building for the juniors. The school opens its premises for use by local groups which supplements the school budget and promotes community education. In addition, it runs two care facilties, before and after school club called Kids United and the Poulton Penguins pre-school playgroup. In 1983 the school hosted a delegation from the Republic of China. Prince Charles recognised Poulton Lancelyn's academic achivements and invited the headteacher to a reception at Highgrove in July 1997. At the Ofsted reception for good schools in October 1997, Stephen Byers, Minister for School Standards for the DfEE, presented the headteacher and deputy headteacher with a certificate recognising the high quality education and standards achieved by the school.
