Background:

Summerhill Primary School was opened in January 1967 and caters for all the children in the Maghull, Melling and Kirkby areas. It is situated on the eastern side of Maghull on an 'attractive open site with a lovely view across the Lancashire Plain'. In February 1996, the school added a pre-school group, known as the Little Acorns, to its educational provision. The school has a good range extra-curricular activities, and these are well supported. Sports clubs include a football team, which takes part in the Maghull schools league and plays against other local schools. A team also enters the Liverpool FC Seven-a-Side Cup, the final of which is played at Anfield. The netball team also plays against others schools in the neighbourhood. Other clubs include the 'Kids Excel', computer club, green club, and music groups. The school is 'popular and well supported'. Parents are 'happy with the standards attained and feel that their children are happy at school'. The school is active in the local community and local community groups also use the school premises on a regular basis. The school encourages its children to achieve their maximum potential whilst promoting high standards of behaviour, respect, moral values and self-esteem.
