Background:

Founded in 1931; in semi-rural setting of mid-Wirral, surrounded by 26 acres of playing fields. Sixth-form block opened in early 1980s, followed by new sports hall (1997) as well as two new science laboratories (1998); new technology block (2003); fourth ICT suite (2004); refurbished physics laboratories (2005). The school is strong in sport and drama, with national reputation for rugby; additional sporting achievements in hockey, cross-country, athletics and cricket. The school has a total of 20 visiting music tutors, offering most instruments. More than 400 pupils have taken part in various sports tours. The school organised recent sports tours in Australia, New Zealand and Barbados; music tours in Toronto, Italy, Spain and Austria. Specialist business and enterprise college status.
