Background:
Originally founded as St Joseph's in 1846, English Martyrs' Catholic Primary School has been extented to accommodate increasing numbers resulting from extensive house building in Litherland. Its name changed in 1936 when the parish of The English Martyrs was formed. In 1997 it moved into a new purpose-built building. Extra-curricular activities include French, first aid, drama, choir, film club, hockey, tennis, athletics, rugby, football, netball, art and quiz club. The school maintains local links with Litherland Youth Club, which offers after-school care and collects children from school.
