Background:
Lydiate County Primary School was built in 1952. It quickly grew and in 1960 a separate infant school was built on the adjacent site. The two schools functioned independently until 1991 when they joined to form Lydiate Primary school. The school now occupies a 'large' site and is 'one of the largest schools in the LEA' with a 72 place nursery. The school is 'well-known' for its musical skills; there is a 50 strong choir and peripatetic music lessons are 'offered free to children who show an interest and talent' in flute, clarinet, violin and cello. Lydiate has strong community ties and fundraising activities include supporting three children through World Vision.
