Background:

Pensby High School for Girls opened in 1953. It is located in a rural setting, with open fields behind it. It is over-subscribed, attracting 1.5 applications for every available place. The school facilities include extensive playing fields, a gymnasium, dance/drama studio, music suite, computerised library, art and pottery rooms, a language laboratory and six science laboratories. Pupils' sporting achievements are excellent, with girls regularly representing the area and district. Volleyball players have reached national standard. The school claims to have a reputation for expressive and performing arts, while some pupils have been finalists in national science competitions. Pensby High School for Girls is a modern forward-looking school that also believes firmly in the traditional values of hard work, good manners and self-discipline. It provides a blend of the very best in traditional education, sound teaching, high standards of courtesy, regular homework, and has a well-qualified, experienced staff who provide a caring, structured environment for every child's development. The school is applying for specialist status in business and enterprise for a September 2006 designation. A new sports complex opened in November 2005, which includes a sports hall and artificial pitch. The school aims to ensure all pupils to achieve their full potential in a safe and secure environment.
