Background:

Built in 1915, the three storey school is situated in the heart of Old Swan, a heavily urbanised area which suffers from high unemployment and poor housing - 56% of children receive free school meals. The school buildings have recently undergone significant reorganisation and a new roof, classrooms, toilets, carpets, information and communications technology (ICT) suite and parent support partnership unit have all been added. The school takes pride in its art curriculum. It has worked closely with a member of staff from Liverpool University to develop painting and pottery, amongst other artistic skills. Extra-curricular activities include music, sporting events, drama and art clubs. A night school runs twice weekly at the school in conjunction with Hope University College. Jane Kennedy MP also uses the school for her surgeries.
