Background:

A one-form entry school in Crossens near Southport, housed in a building which is an amalgamation of three building phases and a refurbishment which took place in 1992. The original school building dates back to 1838. St John's church plays 'an important role' in the life of the school. In 2000 the school was awarded the Quality Mark from the Basic Skills Agency and the Activemark Gold by Sport England, and is one of only two schools nationally which has received both awards. Sport plays an 'important role in the life of the school' while there are many opportunities to experience creative activities. An extensive programme of after-school activities covers athletics, cricket, netball, rugby, tennis, football, judo, rounders, gymnastics, drama, choir, dance, handicrafts, recorder, French, chess, and cross stitch.Children with special educational needs (SEN) are identified and assessed, and provision made to meet their needs.
