Background:

Situated in an inner-city area of high unemployment, the school 'works hard with parents and the local community to provide quality education'. A 'great deal of time' has been spent improving the interior of the 1934 building in which it is housed and pupils have been involved in planning improvements to the outside play areas. The school has also been working towards gaining a Healthy Schools award and has won funds towards its work on mental health. St Hugh's runs the Rainbow counselling scheme for pupils who have experienced bereavement, divorce or separations. Information and communications technology, sport and music are offered as after school activities. 'The phrase 'We love, we care, we work' best sums up the school community'.
