Background:
St Malachy's is housed in two buildings, the Key Stage 2 building built in 1904 and the Key Stage 1 building in 1980. It is an inner city school, but has 'substantial' school grounds facing the River Mersey. The school runs a breakfast club, after school clubs, residential programmes, has sporting 'successes' and hosts social functions for the local community. Educational visits are made each term by each class and parental involvement helps to 'promote life long learning for parents'. Pupils are encouraged to participate in fundraising activities for both national and international charities. The school has 'strong links' with the local universities and colleges, and the LEA has promoted the school for Beacon School status. The school has links with local industry through the Waterfront Business Association and the Toxteth Educational Trust. The school is twinned with a school in Dublin, and is due to make links with a Belfast school soon. The school also encourages class-led acitivites such as assemblies, masses and services of prayer.
