Background:
St Mary's RC Primary founded in the oldest Catholic village in England. The school is surrounded by farmland and woods, and is steeped in unique village traditions. It is over-subscribed and takes only 35 per cent of all applicants. There is an emphasis on traditional teaching methods and whole class teaching. The school receives extra support from local retired people, two of whom were teachers. The school has strong links with the local farming community as two of the teachers are farmers wives, and with the Blundell family of Crosby Hall, who continue to support the school.
